Job summary

Job Overview

We are seeking a Departmental Trainer to support the training and development of new and existing staff within Specimen Reception and Data Entry at our Pathology site.

The post holder will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering effective training on the Pathology Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and associated departmental processes.

This includes supporting staff in managing send‑away results, operating results enquiry lines, and ensuring compliance with departmental procedures, working under the guidance of the Departmental Team Leaders.

Organise and deliver training programmes for new and existing staff within Specimen Reception and Data Entry.

Provide hands‑on training and ongoing support in the use of the Pathology LIMS system.

Support staff in managing send‑away tests and associated results.

Train staff in operating and responding to results enquiry lines.

This role plays a key part in maintaining high standards of accuracy, efficiency, and staff competence within the department.

Permanent shift: 16:00 – 22:00

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver structured training to new and existing staff within Specimen Reception and Data Entry, ensuring competency and confidence in role‑specific tasks.
  • Provide expert training and support in the use of WinPath Enterprise, ensuring accurate specimen registration, data entry, and result handling.
  • Train staff in the management of send‑away tests, including correct processing, tracking, and follow‑up of results.
  • Support and train staff in operating results enquiry lines, communicating clearly and professionally with patients, clinicians, and other service users via telephone.
  • Act as a point of reference for staff queries relating to LIMS usage, specimen workflows, and departmental procedures, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate training records and contribute to competency assessments in line with departmental and Trust requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with Team Leaders to identify training needs and support service delivery across partner Trusts within the joint venture.
  • Ensure all training and day‑to‑day practices comply with Trust policies, quality standards, data protection, and health and safety requirements.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and resilience, maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, and organisation when working under pressure and with minimal supervision.
