Therapeutic Radiographer Apprenticeship Job Opportunity

The University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust, Radiotherapy Department is excited to offer the opportunity for 2 Apprentice Therapeutic Radiographers to join our team.

This is an exciting career development opportunity to join our wonderful team at the Radiotherapy Department in the Leicester Royal Infirmary. As an Apprentice Therapeutic Radiographer you will gain on the job experience and knowledge of radiotherapy service delivery. This will include patient care, pre-treatment, planning, delivery of precise radiation treatment plans and quality assurance of treatment plans and equipment. In addition there will be at least a minimum of 20% protected time (1 day) for university attendance, distance learning or any other educational activities. The radiotherapy department is fully committed to supporting the trainee’s education and professional development through their apprenticeship period and post qualification.

  • 5 Linear Accelerators (4 Varian TrueBeams & 1 Halcyon)
  • 2 wide bore CT Scanners (1 Canon & 1 GE)
  • XStrahl superficial unit
  • Varian GammaMed brachytherapy unit in a brand-new brachytherapy suite.
  • ARIA Oncology management system
  • Varian Eclipse treatment planning system
  • Prosoma Virtual Simulation

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills for the benefit of the LLR patient population and patients from further afield.

Main Duties Of The Job Are
  • Work closely with the therapeutic radiography team, to coordinate the efficient, accurate patient focused planning and delivery of ionising radiation following evidence based protocols within agreed scope of practice
  • Participate in the organisation of the daily workload to optimise the through put of activity.
  • Assist the team in the reassignment of activity in the event of machine breakdowns or unexpected events such as fire alarms.
  • Able to participate in service improvement projects including working with the multidisciplinary team.
  • To participate in presentations when appropriate, promoting knowledge and awareness of radiotherapy, developing the service as one team.
  • To be able to convey and receive messages accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • To be able to safely collect and deliver notes/x-rays/specimens etc. to and from hospital departments to allow patient clinics to run smoothly.
  • To act as a chaperone and escort for patients between Radiotherapy and other areas/departments within the hospital.
  • To assist in all clinical areas as required
  • To undertake administrative duties, including filing, distribution of mail, booking of appointments as requested by qualified staff.
  • To update the Aria data system with relevant patient data, ensuring the Radiotherapy Planning and Treatment areas are kept informed of patients’ arrival and subsequent movements within the department.
