Large slaughterhouses and animal‑by‑products installations are required to use "Best Available Techniques" (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. We have established a process for the definition of BAT within the UK, based on a transparent, collaborative, data‑ and evidence‑led approach that safeguards and builds on the current high levels of environmental protection. Central to this process will be the UK BAT Author, who is responsible for drafting BAT Conclusions, liaising with technical working groups and presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide environmental standard for industry. Some travel and overnight stays may be required, but we use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.

Responsibilities

• Draft BAT Conclusions and supporting documents.
• Liaise with technical working groups and stakeholders.
• Present findings and final documents to UK industry and regulatory bodies.
• Support incident management objectives and identify suitable incident roles.
• Manage project timelines and deliver on up to two‑year contracts.
• Maintain knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, including the IED and Environmental Permitting Regulations.
• Conduct collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least five years of working experience in the slaughterhouse and animal‑by‑products industry.
• Specialist knowledge of process engineering, environmental issues, and environmental legislation in the UK.
• Strong technical writing skills and ability to produce clear, concise reports.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Project management experience and the drive to meet targets.
• Experience influencing and persuading diverse stakeholders.
• Capable of working effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Additional Information
