Teaching Assistant – Year 6 (SEMH / ADHD Support)

Location: Tameside

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (until Summer 2026)

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 3:15pm

Are you a skilled and experienced Teaching Assistant with a strong background in supporting pupils with SEMH and ADHD? This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a key pastoral support role within a dedicated Year 6 team at a welcoming primary school in Tameside, starting immediately and continuing until the end of the academic year in Summer 2026.

About the Role

You’ll work with two Year 6 pupils requiring intensive, structured support to engage with the curriculum and regulate their emotions. Your day will include a mix of classroom-based support, 1:1 interventions, sensory circuits, and proactive behaviour management techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with SEMH and ADHD tendencies to access learning
  • Manage and de‑escalate challenging behaviours calmly and consistently
  • Adapt learning activities to suit emotional, sensory, and communication needs
  • Use strategies such as brain breaks, sensory tasks, and targeted language development
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
What We’re Looking For
  • Significant experience working in SEMH or specialist SEND settings
  • Confident handling challenging behaviours – Team Teach training highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of emotional regulation strategies and curriculum adaptation
  • Calm, proactive, and nurturing in approach with strong communication skills
  • Able to start immediately and commit through to Summer 2026
