We are seeking a compassionate and nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Millbrook, Southampton. This full-time role involves providing dedicated support to Year 2 pupils who are working at a nursery level, requiring a calm, patient, and highly supportive approach to learning and development.

This position is ideal for someone with experience supporting children with additional needs, early developmental stages, or nursery-aged learning within a primary setting.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Experience working with SEN pupils, early years, or children working below age-related expectations.
  • A nurturing, patient, and empathetic approach, with a strong understanding of child development.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with communication needs, sensory needs, and emotional regulation.
  • The ability to provide consistent routines and a calm learning environment.
  • Strong communication skills to work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals.
  • A proactive, reliable, and caring attitude.
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group SEN support to Year 2 pupils working at a nursery level.
  • Support learning through play-based, sensory, and early years-style activities.
  • Assist with personal, social, and emotional development.
  • Encourage communication, early language, and interaction skills.
  • Help manage transitions, routines, and emotional regulation throughout the school day.
  • Support positive behaviour using consistent and nurturing strategies.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support plans.
