Job summary

A leading defence organisation is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join their Military Satellite Communications team in Portsmouth. This role involves capturing requirements, supporting VV&T activities, and defining system architecture for satellite programs. The ideal candidate has a degree in Electronics or similar, experience in digital telecommunications, and strong systems engineering knowledge. This position offers a rate of £55 per hour over a duration of 6 months, with potential extensions.

MERITUS Talent are supporting a leading defence organisation who are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join their Military Satellite Communications (MilSatCom) team. This is an opportunity to contribute to some of the UK's most advanced satellite programmes, delivering secure communications to the MOD across space, ground, and control segments.

What you'll be doing:
  • Capturing requirements from stakeholders and breaking them down into system and subsystem needs.

  • Supporting verification, validation, and testing (VV&T) activities.

  • Defining system architecture for ground and space segments, making trade-offs where necessary.

  • Working with engineering leads, partners, and customers through integrated working groups.

  • Providing technical input for bids, proposals, and customer reviews.

  • Supporting project planning, schedules, and costs while keeping stakeholders informed.

What we're looking for:
  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or similar.

  • Experience with end-to-end digital telecommunications systems (MilSatCom highly desirable).

  • Knowledge of systems engineering, MBSE, and architectural frameworks (EA experience beneficial).

  • Strong understanding of satellite platforms, payloads, and control systems.

  • Comfortable presenting, writing reports, and engaging with customers and partners.

  • Location: Portsmouth on site)

  • Rate: £55 per hour (via umbrella)

  • Duration: 6 months, with potential extensions
