Overview

We\'re looking for a Quantity Surveying Student to join our Construction team based in Cambridge for a Summer Placement.

We are a leading UK national contractor delivering projects of all sizes and complexities in the public and private sectors. We design and deliver buildings that are key to the UK's infrastructure, from hospitals and treatment centres to schools, leisure centres and prisons. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading construction and infrastructure services company on our placement programme designed to provide experiences and tools for progression within your chosen career.

Location: Cambridge - with flexibility to travel across the region

Starting Salary: £26,208 per annum

Pathway: 8 Weeks - 40 hrs per week

Starting date: July 2026

Responsibilities

What will you be responsible for?
As a Summer Placement Quantity Surveyor, you\'ll be working within the Construction team assisting in managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience, receive mentorship from experienced professionals, and develop a strong foundation in quantity surveying.

Day-to-day duties
  • Manage commercial resources of the project
  • Assist in maximising gross profit for projects
  • Assess, review, and mitigate commercial/contractual risks as well as value work executed by sub-contractors
  • Help prepare and submit tenders and contract documents
  • Collaborate with the project team to prepare progress reports and financial statements
Placement structure

The programme will take 8 weeks to complete and is designed to immerse you in the world of construction, allowing you to see your learnings in real-world situations and gain practical experiences to support your degree.

What are we looking for?

We\'re looking for students undertaking a degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related field, who can join us on an 8-week placement across July - August. You must be returning to university upon completion of your placement.
