Qualifications

  • Previous experience in steel fabrication, ideally on infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with large and medium-scale carbon steel fabrications.
  • Experience with stainless steel is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and tack together components as per specifications.
  • Conduct trainings on fabrication activities for new hires.
  • Ensure quality and compliance with technical drawings and specifications.

Role

Steel Fabricator

Starting Salary

£19.04 to £20.01 per hour

Purpose of Role

To assemble and tack together components of products as specified by layout, drawings, diagrams, work orders, weld procedures or oral instructions, using electric arc‑welding equipment.

Key Objectives of the Role
  • Assembly of various steel components with a focus on EN1090 EXC 2 + 3 requirements and associated dimension control and weld set‑up parameters to enable a successful follow‑on welding activity.
  • Drilling and tapping holes in steel structures, and oxy‑acetylene cutting.
  • Familiarity with large and medium‑scale carbon steel fabrications.
  • Experience with stainless steel would be desirable.
  • Previous experience in steel fabrication, ideally on infrastructure projects, oil & gas and offshore‑wind sector activity.
  • Full‑time position with opportunity to develop the role to cell‑leader position.
Interview Assessment

Applicants will be required to complete a relevant fabrication activity at interview, such as: 1) notch a beam and add plates; 2) cut a hatch into a piece of tube; 3) marking out on tube and plate.

My client is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of specialist steel support structures, primarily to the oil & gas, rail, infrastructure, nuclear, mobile telecommunications, offshore‑wind and onshore‑wind sectors. The business operates in‑house design, manufacture and deployment functions from several sites located in Widnes and has a turnover of £30 m and employs 160 personnel.

Salary NAECI Agreement Rates
  • £19.04 - £20.01 per hour
  • £26.66 - £28.01 overtime A
  • £34.27 - £36.02 overtime B
  • Fabricator proficiency pay scheme offering the ability to increase hourly rate by up to £1.50 per hour.
Schedule
  • 8 hour shift
  • Flat hours Monday‑Thursday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm, Friday 8:00 am‑2:30 pm (38‑hour week)
  • Overtime, currently 10 hours per week and increasing
