Job description
Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic nurses who are keen to work within our Frailty Same Day Emergency Care (OPAU: Old persons assessment unit) in the Urgent and Emergency Care Division. The department provides bespoke care to elderly patients to prevent unnecessary hospital admission. You will join a friendly and supportive team at Ashford and St Peters Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

You will work within the framework of team nursing and individualised patient care, collaborating with the department's multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients and contribute towards developing and maintaining a stimulating learning environment. You will receive a full induction programme (and preceptorship if new to the NHS), continuous professional development, and opportunities to develop your career. Applications from new graduates and experienced nurses are welcome.

Responsibilities
  • Work effectively within the framework of team nursing and individualised patient care.
  • Collaborate with the department's multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate care programmes for patients.
  • Contribute towards developing and maintaining a suitable and stimulating learning environment; supervise junior registered and non-registered staff.
  • Deliver high-quality direct patient care; manage patient admission/transfer/discharge processes; maintain a safe environment.
  • Administer medications and participate in care planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, patients, families and carers; ensure evidence-based practice and research is applied.
  • Maintain competency according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust policies and procedures.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Experience – Please provide a brief overview of your experience and suitability for the role; experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Skills – Effective communication, IT skills, compassion and empathy, ability to work in a team; ability to assess patients, plan and provide care; knowledge of diversity and human rights as appropriate to the role.
  • Clinical Skills – Ability to cannulate and take bloods, or willingness to gain this skill during employment.
  • Qualifications – Registered Nurse with evidence of NMC registration (or pending registration).
  • Other Requirements – Identify area of adult nursing you are applying for; valid right to work document; current UK professional registration.
