Job description
Overview

An opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Gynaecology Unit (EGU) team at St Mary's Hospital MCS, Wythenshawe Hospital, within Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. This is a permanent position at 37.5 hours per week. EGU operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including days, twilights, nights and weekends.

The EGU provides a specialist nurse‑led emergency service for patients with gynaecological concerns in early pregnancy (up to 16 weeks gestation). It works alongside a Consultant‑led EGU and medical team to support patients through the service.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for assessing and triaging patients and delivering timely care, with clear communication to the multidisciplinary team. A significant part of the role as a Staff Nurse in EGU is to provide high‑quality bereavement care for patients and their families experiencing early pregnancy loss. You will work within an experienced MDT and will be supported during a supernumerary period. You may be involved in seeing, treating and discharging pregnancy‑related patients with appropriate training.

You will be part of a fast‑paced environment with a high footfall and will gain experience in acute emergency gynaecology settings.

Qualifications and Skills

To join us, you should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to support and contribute to a team approach. You should have the ability to problem solve, analyse and resolve issues, and be motivated to develop personally and professionally with exemplary personal standards of conduct.

Completion of the Emergency Gynaecology Course is beneficial but not essential, as the successful candidate will be enrolled on the Emergency Gynaecology Course to develop the skills to see, treat and discharge all pregnancy‑related patients.
