The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, a world‑leading cancer centre, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Band 6 Nurse to join our esteemed Markus Ward team. This is a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to provide exceptional patient care in a supportive and dynamic environment.

About Markus Ward

Markus Ward is an 8‑bed, private patient medical oncology unit specialising in the delivery of inpatient chemotherapy and the management of cancer‑related symptoms. We pride ourselves on offering personalised care to our patients, ensuring their comfort and well‑being throughout all stages of their cancer journey. This role will enable the post holder to develop strong competencies in symptom management and palliative care, whilst also recognising and providing care for acutely unwell patients, such as those experiencing neutropenic sepsis.

Role and responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality patient care with compassion and professionalism.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to enhance the patient experience.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, commitment, and a strong work ethic.
  • To complete the first‑level assessment of patients’ needs to gain an understanding of their physiological, psycho‑social, spiritual and cultural needs and develop a positive, realistic and supportive attitude to ensure that the needs of the patient and family are met.
  • Assist with teaching patients in preparation for investigations, treatment and home care.
  • Develop an awareness of the protocols involved for patients undergoing clinical trials.
  • Be aware of all hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health‑care professionals to ensure that these are observed.

Qualifications and experience
  • Registration and evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Sufficient post‑registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent.
  • Experience in intravenous drug administration.
  • Desirable: Experience in chemotherapy administration, clinical management, relevant teaching experience, knowledge of clinical trials management.
