Job description
Overview

Are you a registered nurse with a passion for mental health care? We are looking for compassionate and motivated Staff Nurses (Band 5) to join our Adult Inpatient teams in Exeter. We have opportunities across three settings: The Junipers, a modern 10-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) set in the tranquil grounds of Wonford House, providing specialist, short-term care for men and women with acute and complex mental health needs; and Russell Clinic, our rehabilitation and recovery ward supporting people with complex psychosis to rebuild their lives after severe mental illness, offering person-centred care using a wide range of therapeutic and recovery-focused approaches. As a Staff Nurse across our Exeter Adult Mental Health Inpatient Wards, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to adults experiencing acute or complex mental health needs.

  • Providing safe, compassionate, and recovery-focused nursing care as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Supporting the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual care plans.
  • Administering medication and monitoring therapeutic responses in line with clinical protocols.
  • Acting as a named nurse for allocated service users and maintaining accurate clinical records.
  • Promoting a positive and therapeutic environment that supports recovery and rehabilitation.
  • Responding effectively to challenging behaviours using de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Building strong relationships with service users, families, carers, and community services to support safe discharge planning.
  • Contributing to ward activities, clinical discussions, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • To manage the unit in the absence of Ward Manager / Team Leader.
  • To participate in the internal rotation system including weekend working.

You’ll be supported with supervision, reflective practice, and access to ongoing professional development. Whether you’re newly qualified or experienced, you’ll be welcomed into a supportive, multidisciplinary team with access to training, development and career progression. You will need excellent communication skills and we are always looking for nurses who are keen to share new ideas and seek areas of improvement.
