Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant role within our Community Learning Disability Team based in Solihull CLDT. The post serves the local population of adults with learning disabilities, supporting Speech and Language Therapists and the wider Learning Disability team. The post holder will complete administrative duties, prepare therapy resources and implement therapy programmes for adults with communication difficulties and learning disabilities.

Job responsibilities
  • Support Speech and Language Therapists in delivering therapy sessions to adults with learning disabilities, working independently or with other assistants.
  • Plan, run and record therapy sessions in a variety of settings (homes, day centres, workplaces, leisure facilities).
  • Implement therapy programmes devised by a Speech and Language Therapist, modifying approaches as needed to meet individual needs.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date clinical records and case‑notes in accordance with service policies.
  • Develop and organise resources for individual and group work, including communication books, symbols and training materials.
  • Assist with the assessment and support of AAC users alongside Therapy staff.
  • Attend case conferences, staff and team meetings, and activity-based supervision as required.
  • Support student placements and liaise with professionals, clients, carers, and families.
  • Contribute to quality standards of the Speech and Language Therapy Service in Learning Disabilities.
  • Comply with the NHS Code of Conduct and any other relevant professional code of conduct.
  • Travel to multiple locations daily by driving; own transport is essential.
Qualifications
  • GCSE English (C)
  • GCSE Mathematics (C)
  • NVQ3 in a relevant subject
Experience
  • Experience working with people with learning disabilities or within a community learning disability team.
  • Experience delivering speech and language therapy programmes devised by a speech and language therapist.
  • Experience planning and delivering speech and language therapy activities.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and associated communication difficulties.
  • Skills in planning and delivering speech‑and‑language activities with adults with learning disabilities.
  • Awareness of assessments and treatment approaches relevant to the client group.
  • Skills in generating and organising resources.
  • Computer literacy.
Additional requirements
  • Car driver with own transport is essential.
  • Experience or knowledge of speech and language therapy/communication needs is preferable.
  • Will be required to take part in an annual performance appraisal.
Salary

£27,485 to £30,162 a year per annum pro rata, band 4, permanent, part‑time.
