We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join the Rheumatology Department at LTHT as a Specialty Doctor. Candidates with experience of complex rheumatic inflammatory conditions and advanced therapies are encouraged to apply. The post will be mainly outpatient based with general and specialist clinics. A commitment to participate in quality improvement and education is essential. There are significant opportunities to participate in research.
The post is for 6 sessions per week. It is predominantly outpatient based, at Chapel Allerton Hospital. The postholder will work with a team of consultants and registrars. The clinics will be a mix of general and subspecialty rheumatology. At times, with advance notice, a clinic session may be altered to cover inpatient or day case work. It is envisaged that the postholder will have a specific individual clinic list in each clinic, under consultant supervision.
The postholder is expected to have a role in training and education for medical students as clinic-based teaching and to deliver educational sessions for resident doctors. It is expected to present clinical cases and teaching presentations at the weekly academic meeting. The rheumatology department is involved with local, regional and national postgraduate teaching courses. There is a weekly programme of departmental clinical, educational, governance and research meetings with internal and external presentation. The postholder is expected to participate in audit and projects related to service delivery and improvement.

The Rheumatology Department has a national and international reputation for high quality clinical care and research. It offers secondary and tertiary care across subspecialty areas and is an NHS England Specialist Centre for Rheumatology. Most work is outpatient based, with some inpatient beds.
Timetable (illustrative): Wednesday AM Early Arthritis Clinic; Wednesday PM Education/CPD; Thursday AM Connective Tissue Diseases clinic; Thursday PM Joint injection clinic; Friday AM Spondyloarthropathy Clinic; Friday PM Administration.
The postholder will participate in medical student teaching, educational sessions for residents, and present at the weekly academic meeting. The department is involved with local, regional and national postgraduate teaching courses. A weekly programme of departmental clinical, educational, governance and research meetings exists, with participation in audit and service improvement projects. Mentoring and career development opportunities are available, and the postholder will participate in annual appraisal and revalidation.
