Job description
Overview

We are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated individual to join our Ophthalmology team. This post is aimed at providing ophthalmology services at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro, associated hospitals and peripheral sites in Cornwall. The successful candidate is expected to deliver general and specialist ophthalmological services such as glaucoma, retina, and eye casualty.

Role and responsibilities
  • Work with the Consultant sub-specialty leads to mitigate possible risks to the service and support the service's administrative team in organising, planning, and maintaining a safe and well-led service.
  • Benefit from a well-supported, regular 10 PA job plan with rotation between sub-specialties, including retinal, glaucoma, minor operations, and emergency work.
  • Operate as a key member of the team, fostering a team-based approach to relationships within the department and with other specialties in the organisation.
  • Engage and contribute to clinical audit, governance and quality improvement and innovation in the specialty and trust.
  • Examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and discharge of patients.
  • Independent outpatient clinics including an emergency eye clinic.
  • Perform laser and minor operative procedures as and when needed.
  • Participation in a 1 in 7 on-call rota.
  • Supervision as required of junior medical staff during working hours in the department.
  • Involvement in Clinical Audit, teaching, and research.
  • Additional duties as may be required within the grade of a temporary or permanent nature.
