Overview
The post involves a team of 4 PAs: 3 PAs to provide dental treatment and 1 PA for new patient assessment. The duties include assessment, treatment planning, supervision of junior practitioners, and contributing to service improvement and governance.
Responsibilities
- Assess and treatment plan patients referred by general dental practitioners, community dental services and internal tertiary referrals.
- Provide a high quality care service to patients in collaboration with colleagues, including all aspects of treatment and management for the proper functioning of the Care Group.
- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners (shared responsibilities where applicable).
- Contribute to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance and Learning from Deaths as required.
- Ensure activities are conducted within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
- Exercise professional leadership for all staff within the specialty, fostering projects and maintaining momentum of post-qualification education and training.
- Work with clinical and other professional colleagues to maintain staff productivity and job satisfaction; may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues.
- Support 24/7 cover for the Unit on a rota basis, including covering colleagues' annual leave and short-term sickness as detailed in your contract.
- Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
- Be aware of and comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene and environmental and food hygiene.
- Prepare for and undertake protective interventions in line with evidence-based practice and patient safety.
- Contribute to the Care Group's business planning, service development discussions with internal and external agencies as appropriate.
- Be prepared to participate in outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group's management team.
- Contribute to the Care Group's research interests in line with the Trust's R&D framework and contribute to the Trust’s audit and clinical governance initiatives.
- Commit to delivering Consultant-led 7-day services; participate equally with other Consultant colleagues in future developments.
- Be aware of, and comply with, safeguarding duties for children and vulnerable adults as applicable to the role.
