Specialist Senior Diagnostic Radiographer – Deputy Outpatients and QA. Band 6 Specialist Senior Radiographer, Outpatient X-Ray Imaging and X-Ray Quality Assurance at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join the Outpatient X-Ray (Plain Film) Imaging team as a Band 6 Specialist Senior Radiographer. We are seeking a HCPC registered Radiographer with post-graduate experience in a plain film/general radiography role, solid clinical knowledge, and leadership and quality assurance experience to join our dynamic mobile imaging team at UHPT. Applications are welcome from radiographers with demonstrable experience in plain film/general radiography or similar roles.

The Outpatient X-Ray Imaging service at UHPT covers a wide remit, including chest, cardiac, ENT, trauma, orthopaedic (adult and paediatric), neurosurgical, urology, and upper GI. Successful candidates will also be responsible for delivering the X-Ray Quality Assurance Programme and may gain experience in trauma imaging, fluoroscopy, general inpatient imaging, paediatrics, theatre and mobile imaging.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide clinical excellence and leadership; liaise with service users and aid service development; manage day-to-day organisation of the clinical area.
  • Provide support across the whole X-ray (Plain Film) Imaging team and deputise in the absence of the Outpatient and QA Lead Radiographer.
  • Train and supervise undergraduate radiographers, trainee apprentices, and contribute to teaching and learner development.
  • Commit to 7-day working as per Agenda for Change; work flexibly across the week.

Job description and responsibilities
  • Support and deputise for the Outpatient and QA Lead Radiographer; provide operational leadership and senior support to the Imaging team and the Outpatient and QA Imaging Service Line.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, the Directorate Office, and Trust; report to the Modality Lead Radiographer.
  • Contribute to governance, quality, and patient care while promoting the imaging role to stakeholders.

Other notes: the department includes Assistant Practitioners, Apprentice Radiographers, Reporting Radiographers, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and Consultant Radiographers as part of a four-tier radiography structure. Internal Trust staff and NHS At Risk priority candidates may receive preference.

  • Manual handling skills; safe operation in department, wards, and theatre
  • Computer literacy; ability to use Word, databases, Excel for data reporting
  • Understanding of IRR/IRMER and radiation protection legislation
