Overview

Are you passionate about supporting children, young people and families to achieve better outcomes? Birmingham Children's Trust is looking for several experienced and motivated Social Work Assistants to join their dedicated frontline teams. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in one of the largest and most diverse local authorities in the country.

About the Role

As a Social Work Assistant, you will work alongside qualified Social Workers and other professionals to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people across Birmingham. You will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, child-centred services, helping families build on their strengths while addressing risks.

  • Supporting Social Workers with assessments, interventions and care planning.
  • Undertaking direct work with children, young people and their families in homes, schools and community settings.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports, chronologies, case notes and other documentation for meetings, court or statutory reviews.
  • Transporting children or families safely to meetings, appointments or contact sessions, ensuring their wellbeing at all times.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with children, families, carers, and partner agencies.
  • Contributing to team discussions, case conferences, strategy meetings and reviews.
  • Maintaining accurate records in line with policies and safeguarding procedures.
About You

We are looking for applicants who are:

  • Experienced in supporting vulnerable children, young people or families in social care, education, youth work, early help, residential, or similar settings.
  • Knowledgeable about safeguarding, child development, and relevant legislation/guidance (e.g. Working Together to Safeguard Children).
  • Organised and proactive, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to build trust, show empathy and remain resilient under pressure.
  • Confident working independently as well as part of a busy, multi-agency team.
Essential Requirements
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes (this role involves travelling across Birmingham).
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings/weekends where required.
