Signalling and Telecommunications Technician

Location: Midland Metro Ltd, Wednesbury Depot, Potters Lane, WS10 0AR

Salary: £38,650 – £42,888 per annum (inclusive of on-call allowance), Depending on Experience + Excellent Benefits!

Contract: Permanent, Mon – Thu 0700 – 1500, Fri 0700 – 1400 – Flexible night working when required

We are now recruiting for a Signalling and Telecommunications Technician to undertake work with our S&T Infrastructure Team, ensuring the maintenance and repair tasks are performed with the utmost safety and effectiveness.

As our Signalling and Telecommunications Technician, you will assume responsibility for:

  • Ensuring inspection and maintenance tasks are being completed in a timely manner and in compliance with the planned maintenance schedule
  • Ensuring the work tasks follow the correct procedures
  • Conducting maintenance and repairs to the West Midland Metro signalling and telecommunications equipment
  • Oversight of contractors carrying out planned works on the signalling and telecommunications equipment
  • Assisting in test and commissioning of new systems
  • Switching of electrical substations
  • Involvement may be necessary when external contractors are required to conduct any planned works
  • Continuous assessment and improvement of working practices embracing new technologies
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency situations and unplanned repairs outside of normal working hours
  • Night shift work to perform maintenance and repair work as may reasonably be required by MML management

To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have:

  • A good working knowledge and competence in electrical / mechanical systems.
  • Recognised Electrical Qualification at Level 3 or above.
  • Experience in the use of computer based diagnostic equipment.
  • Demonstrable computer literacy and writing skills.
  • The ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • A full driving license.

It would be great if you had:

  • City and Guilds 18th Edition
  • City and Guilds Inspection and Periodic Inspection
  • Any experience in fibre and data maintenance, repair and installation.
