Job description
Overview

Our Service Technicians/Mechanics are involved in all aspects of maintenance and repair, from routine servicing to complex diagnostics and repairs to our customers' vehicles. Every day is different within the Service department.

Responsibilities
  • Use of diagnostic equipment to identify vehicle faults.
  • Testing of parts and systems to ensure correct working.
  • Following checklists to ensure all critical parts of vehicles are examined.
  • Carrying out a bumper-to-bumper overview, service, and inspection.
  • Maintenance of electronic systems including on-board entertainment systems.
  • Undertaking repair and maintenance of vehicle parts including clutches, gearboxes, tyres, brakes, and suspension.
  • Completion of legible and accurate paperwork for the customer's and centre's records.
  • Maintenance of a clean and tidy work environment.
  • You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of products including traditional, hybrid and electronic engines. From heritage vehicles to leading edge modern technology, our range will provide you with a varied technical training experience to build your skills as a Service Technician/Mechanic.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
  • Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
  • Obtain diagnostic and repair information and interpret diagnostic information using electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
  • Use a range of diagnostic equipment and follow recognised diagnostic procedures and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
  • Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
  • Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs, including those with complex procedures or in-depth knowledge.
  • Test the function of repaired and fitted components and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
  • Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web-based searches.
  • Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.
Training and Development

Training will be delivered using a combination of virtual classroom remote learning and face-to-face block release weeks at our training centre. Trainers will guide you through the programme with a mix of e-learning, classroom learning and practical application. In the workplace, your personal mentor will support your continued learning as you apply skills and knowledge gained through remote sessions and at the Volkswagen Group National Learning Centre. This is a fully rounded training experience where you will build life skills and gain apprenticeship qualifications and brand certifications. You will also have the opportunity to attend Outward Bound to develop resilience, confidence, and teamwork skills. On successful completion of the three year programme, you will receive the following:

  • Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle).
  • Certificate in Automotive Refrigerant Handling.
  • Brand specific certifications.
