Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Edinburgh seeks experienced Utility Surveyors to manage projects and mentor junior team members. The ideal candidates will have qualifications in Utility Mapping Surveying and 5-10 years fieldwork experience with GPR techniques. Strong communication skills and a full UK driving license are required. Join us to work on impactful projects across the UK.

Qualifications

  • QCF Level 3 and Level 5, in Utility Mapping Surveying or specific qualification.
  • 5-10 years proven experience of fieldwork for utility surveys.
  • Fieldwork processing including production of CAD drawings.

YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED?

  • Working within a team of Utility Surveyors based UK wide, working alongside the Topographical Surveying, UAV and MBS teams.
  • Managing and coordinating live projects, bidding, and assisting with marketing for new projects
  • Carrying out buried services surveys with respect to briefs and specifications
  • Processing and checking of projects, whilst rigorously adhering to, and ensuring, that the prevailing standards of WSP are adhered to.
  • Quality Assurance – Ensure that standards are being followed on site and in the office
  • Mentoring of junior team members

YOUR TEAM

  • Surveying Services (UK)
    • Working within a team of 40 Surveyors based UK wide, consisting of Topographical, Measured Building & Buried Services Surveyors and UAV Pilots.
    • Working mainly on surveying projects based in Scotland
    • Varied client base from Local Authorities to Multi-Discipline Consultants
    • Reporting to the survey team leads
    • Hardworking
    • City based offices, with excellent transport links and surrounding area includes shops/café/parking train station
    • Surveying Services promote the power of joined-up geospatial technologies to bring locational data alive

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • QCF Level 3 and Level 5, in Utility Mapping Surveying or have a specific qualification, either as part of their main degree, HND or as a specialist module in an engineering-based qualification. However, candidates with suitable skills and proven experience will be considered.
  • Proven experience of carrying out fieldwork for below ground utility surveys and drainage surveys on varied sites using Electromagnetic and GPR techniques. Experience of working to PAS128 standards, collecting and post-processing GPR data. Typically, 5-10 years.
  • Process fieldwork including the production of 2D & 3D CAD drawings and other survey reports.
  • Experience in the use of total stations and GNSS.
  • Experience in carrying out Topographical Surveys would be advantageous but not essential·
  • Ability to communicate unambiguously to public and team members. Able to operate effectively in all weather conditions, or at night.
  • Undertake own CPD.
  • Must have the skills to check and critically evaluate the work done by others, be it Drawings, Calculations or Reports.
  • Active contribution to Technical Excellence and innovation across the survey team
  • Ability to work effectively alone or as part of a team·
  • Ability to manage and mentor staff

The applicant must have a full UK driving licence as the role will require travel around the country
