Job description
Overview

To provide civilian support to ensure the smooth running of issues and receipts within the Quartermaster (QM) department and to carry out all processing required to maintain accurate accounting records of all items held on account.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Transformation programme context

Strategic Command is undergoing a transformation programme to improve how it conducts business and delivers for Defence and the nation. Posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and, in time, the wider organisation, are subject to review and potential changes as part of continuous improvement. The Command is committed to the MOD framework on managing and supporting people through change and to early and open consultation with personnel and Trade Unions.

Key responsibilities
  1. The QM Storekeeper will maintain a specialist electronic account using the Management of the Joint Defence Inventory system (MJDI), including knowledge of demand, receipt and issue procedures on MJDI stores accounting and maintaining individuals\' holdings on MJDI.
  2. Familiarity with disposal and back loading of stores, running stock levels and stock rotation. Accommodating managerial stock checks and maintaining documentation for stores accounting and auditing.
  3. Demonstrate physical ability to lift and carry boxes of clothing and equipment, load/offload vehicles, and place/retrieve items from shelving that may be above head height. Manual handling limits apply (25 kg for men, 16 kg for women).
  4. Occasional work outside core hours with flexibility required (evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays or time off in lieu).
  5. Training will be provided in post on the Army inventory management information system – MJDI.
  6. Other tasks commensurate with the role as directed by line management.

Requirements
  • Good communication skills

  • Literate and numerate to GCSE/equivalent level

  • Hold a clean UK driving licence Cat B to assist collection, delivery and transportation needs
  • Ability to work on own initiative and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team and enable others to give of their best
  • Relevant experience and understanding of stores management and accounting procedures

Notes on sponsorship

As of 1 January 2021, the MOD offers sponsorship for skilled worker visas under the points-based system only where a role is business critical. This role does not meet that category and we will not sponsor a visa. It is therefore NOT open to applicants who require sponsorship.

Notes
  • The post does not offer relocation expenses.
  • External recruits to the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
