Senior Scientist – Team Leader

Cambridge

12 Month Fixed Term Contract (possibility of extension)

Synergy is an on-site scientific service provider, deploying expert teams within their customers’ labs to deliver core activities and support innovation across the life science industries.

For this role the customer is a modern life sciences company delivering human-focused research and discovery, enabled by a unique and proven Organ-on-a-Chip (OOC) platform. They work at the interface of engineering and cell biology to develop human biomimetic platforms for the testing and development of therapeutics for serious human diseases.

The Synergy Scientific Team works within the Contract Research Services (CRS) department at the customer’s site to deliver specific contract research projects for external customers.

Key Responsibilities:

The role holder will run scientific projects and supervise the day-to-day work of the on-site Synergy Team, ensuring high levels of customer service and delivery.

  • Drive and lead projects for external customers, from aiding in the design of experiments, running complex in vitro OOC applications, performing assays and reporting the results to a high standard.
  • Support and mentor junior team members and be responsible training of new team members.
  • Become an expert in the OOC models supporting the CRS Manager in liaising with customers.
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of running experiments including upkeep of the lab, maintaining stocks, record keeping, updating protocols and maintaining good health and safety practices.
  • Ensure all experiments are correctly recorded and data integrity is maintained to a high standard.

Ideal Candidate:

  • PhD (or Equivalent) in biology, bioengineering or related subject with experience working in a regulated environment
  • Expertise in primary cell cultures, ELISAs and confocal microscopy and/or qPCR.
  • Experience mentoring, training and supporting other team members.
