Job summary

A leading recruitment agency in the UK seeks a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of civil engineering and infrastructure projects. You will provide commercial leadership, manage contract administration and maintain relationships with clients and supply chains. The ideal candidate has commercial experience in construction and strong financial reporting skills. This role offers a daily rate between £450 and £550.

Overview

A Senior Quantity Surveyor is required to support the commercial management of civil engineering and infrastructure projects across water, transport, energy and the built environment. This role suits someone experienced in managing costs, contracts and subcontractors across fast‑paced, complex schemes, typically valued between £200k and £10m+.

The Role

The SQS will provide commercial leadership to project teams, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial control and effective risk management. You will manage contract administration, subcontract procurement, monthly valuations, variations, forecasting and final accounts, while maintaining close relationships with clients and the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce monthly commercial reports, cash flows and forecasts
  • Prepare and submit applications for payment
  • Procure and manage subcontract packages
  • Manage cost control, change, variations and commercial risks
  • Support project teams with cost planning and contractual advice
  • Ensure compliance with NEC / IChemE contracts
  • Maintain strong client, stakeholder and supply chain relationships
Essential Experience & Skills
  • Commercial experience in construction or civil engineering
  • Knowledge of NEC / IChemE forms of contract
  • Experience in subcontract procurement and management
  • Strong financial reporting, forecasting and cost analysis skills
  • Good communication, IT and organisational ability
Desirable
  • RICS membership (or working towards)
  • HND / degree in Quantity Surveying
  • Experience with direct‑delivery contractors
  • CSCS card
