Job Summary
We’re seeking an enthusiastic and motivated audiologist to join our busy Paediatric Audiology team. The role involves developing community services and ensuring everything is based on a quality‑first approach.
The service is delivered from purpose‑built Paediatric audiology suites covering Halton, St Helens & Knowsley.
The applicant must be an experienced Audiologist with a good knowledge of Paediatric Hearing Assessments obtained within the last two years in the NHS, aspiring to progress and increase their expertise.
The successful candidate will hold a BSc or MSc in Audiology (or equivalent) and be registered with AHCS/HCPC with relevant post‑qualification experience.
Flexible working will be considered for all roles; we do not hold a sponsor licence for working visas.

Main Duties
- Perform diagnostic hearing assessment on pre‑school and school‑age children and infants, using:
- Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA)
- Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA)
- Performance testing
- Speech discrimination testing
- Middle‑ear function tests (tympanometry)
- Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs)
- Carry out otoscopy and impression taking following BSA recommended procedures, identify indications for further procedures and onward referrals.
- Manage hearing loss in infants and children:
- Dispense, fit, and maintain digital hearing aids using MCHAS guidelines.
- Use probe‑mic measurements to verify hearing aids.
- Conduct reviews, habilitation, and rehabilitation, using outcome measures to guide progress.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of audiological equipment, report faults and arrange repairs.
- Maintain accurate, confidential patient records, update results, write reports to health professionals, and update national databases.
- Organise routine and outreach clinics, ensuring portable equipment is available, and manage smooth transition of children onto Adult Audiology Services.
- Plan own workload, prioritise referrals, and supervise junior staff when required.
- Demonstrate flexibility to meet the needs of children with complex needs, adapt test procedures, and manage urgent referrals.
- Collaborate with the Audiology Lead and multidisciplinary team to ensure an effective department.
- Monitor hearing‑aid stock and advise on re‑ordering.
- Keep rigorous record‑keeping systems and ensure documents are securely stored and easily accessible.
Professional Practice
- Actively participate in Trust research projects involving children with hearing loss.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and professional standards without supervision.
- Adhere to Health and Safety at Work Act and Trust policies.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, updating knowledge of paediatric test protocols and implementing new procedures.
- Maintain AHCS/HCPC registration.
- Take part in professional and departmental meetings.
Communication
- Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, families, colleagues, and external partners.
- Adapt communication for infants and young children, including those with learning difficulties.
- Deliver complex technical information in a clear and meaningful way.
- Use persuasion and reassurance to gain children’s confidence for invasive procedures.
- Show sensitivity when delivering bad news.
Qualifications
- BSc/MSc Audiology or equivalent (e.g., BTEC MPPM, BAAT Parts 1 and 2, HNC MPPM).
- Registered with AHCS/HCPC or working towards registration.
Experience
- Recent NHS experience in paediatric audiometric assessment, including full range of behavioural audiometric tests.
- Experience managing infants and children with hearing loss.
- Experience conducting audits and surveys in a clinical setting.
- Excellent paediatric hearing aid assessment, fitting and rehabilitation experience.
Desirable
- Good experience with paediatric diagnostic tests, including OAEs.
- Experience with audits and service development initiatives.
Skills and Attributes
- Ability to carry out a full range of paediatric audiology diagnostic tests.
