Owen Daniels are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering and manufacturing business in Coventry for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with specialist experience in rotating machinery. This is a key technical role within a high-performing design team, focused on delivering complex mechanical systems for demanding industrial applications. Coventry. Commutable from Birmingham, Rugby, Leamington Spa, Nuneaton, Warwick, and surrounding areas.
Salary
Up to GBP70K + for the right person
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and development of precision-engineered rotating equipment, including motors, pumps, compressors, turbines, or gearbox assemblies.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings (preferably using SolidWorks).
- Conduct engineering calculations, stress analysis, tolerance analysis, and material selection.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to junior engineers and design technicians.
- Ensure designs meet relevant performance, cost, compliance, and manufacturing requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams across R&D, production, testing, and quality to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, FMEAs, and continuous improvement activities.
Candidate Profile
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
- Extensive experience in the design and development of rotating machinery or high-speed mechanical systems.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD and technical drawing creation (SolidWorks preferred).
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical design theory, structural integrity, thermodynamics, and dynamics of rotating systems.
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (API, ISO, ASME, etc.).
- Able to lead design projects from concept through to production release.
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence technical discussions and decision-making.
Desirable Experience
- FEA (e.g. ANSYS) and/or CFD simulation tools.
- Experience with high-integrity or safety-critical equipment.
- Knowledge of condition monitoring, vibration analysis, or thermal management.
- Prior experience working within a regulated or ISO-certified design environment.
