Overview

What you’ll be doing and why this role matters within the Manufacturing Engineering function for the submarine programmes.

Responsibilities
  • Work with deployed Manufacturing Engineering Managers on all three submarine programmes to progress the Manufacturing Engineering mandate
  • Support the Manufacturing Engineering function through effective people development and deployment across all programmes aligned to departmental and business strategic goals
  • Own the Manufacturing Engineering governance processes, driving compliance and strategic development
  • Use data and stakeholder engagement to assure the business that enablement activities align with business processes
  • Drive improvement in how the business handles flight change, manufacturing process and tooling requirements
  • Support the Head of Manufacturing Engineering submarines and provide an assurance position to the BAE Systems Manufacturing Director
  • Align with the core Manufacturing Engineering function team to progress the Manufacturing Engineering mandate on all three submarine programmes
Your skills and experiences
  • Demonstrable experience as a leader in Manufacturing Engineering in a highly regulated industry
  • Experience on complex large-scale industrial or defence build programmes or experience in a highly regulated industry
  • Degree qualified in STEM or equivalent (ideally in manufacturing or a sub-discipline)
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and delivery-focused teams
  • Understanding of manufacturing enablement including modern techniques and processes
  • Good understanding of manufacturing tooling and the role of Manufacturing Engineering within this space
  • Experience in a senior governance role with or an understanding of auditing would be an advantage
  • Experience in capability acquisition or new technology insertion would be an advantage
  • Experience in APQP would be advantageous

The Manufacturing Team

As part of the Manufacturing team, you will work with other Manufacturing Engineering Managers to drive progress within the Manufacturing Engineering function. You will be involved in the manufacture of a world-class product for the Royal Navy and contribute to the national endeavour for ongoing protection of the nation. Career opportunities exist within the function and wider business. Relocation support packages across all submarine roles are available, subject to eligibility criteria.
