A major NHS teaching trust in Oxford is seeking a Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist. This role involves delivering specialist cardiac surgical support and continuous development of training for staff. Applicants should have accreditation with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists and a minimum of two years' experience post-accreditation. The position offers a full-time permanent contract with flexible working options and participation in an on-call rota. Salary ranges from £55,690 to £62,682 annually.
The closing date is 24 December 2025
The Cardiothoracic unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital performs 700 adult cardiac surgical cases per annum. As well as the usual range of myocardial revascularisation and valve replacement procedures, the case mix comprises complex thoracic aortic surgery, mini‑mitral valve repair, minimally invasive coronary and valve surgery, and off‑pump coronary surgery.
The Department of Clinical Perfusion provides additional support when required to the Cardiology Angiography Suite, and is working alongside Cardiologists and Intensivists on an emerging MCS programme for cardiogenic shock.
The Department is currently looking to recruit a Senior Clinical Perfusionist, making a total establishment of nine qualified perfusionists and two trainees. We also welcome applications from suitably qualified perfusionists who are able to work towards limited registration status. In these cases Agenda for change Annex U rules will apply and the successful candidate will be paid base rate of Band 5 until gaining accreditation.
The position is full time permanent contract based around a four‑day working week, but the department is optimised for work‑life balance and is open to discussing part‑time or flexible work patterns also. Participation in the on‑call rota will be required – this is currently at a frequency of 1:6 with 4.5 % uplift and additional calls paid hourly on NHSP. Please ask for details.
Informal enquiries and visits are welcome from appropriately qualified individuals.
