Job summary: This post is suitable for post CCT Specialist Registrars (or equivalent) seeking to specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex otological disease including implantation otology and lateral skull base surgery.
The post offers supervised training in all aspects of surgical otology including cochlear implantation, implantation of bone conducting implants (BCI) and surgery for chronic ear disease and otosclerosis. The post also involves training in lateral skull base surgery including but not limited to the management of acoustic neuromas. This experience is in conjunction with the neuro-surgical department. Relevant post-operative management of these patients is an essential part of this post.
The successful individual will participate in regular MDT meetings in both implantation otology and skull base surgery. These include radiological reviews of relevant imaging.

The otolaryngology service has been successfully configured on the 'hub and spoke' model and following its work as an 'Action on ENT' Pilot site has been developed into a formal network. The Service is centered at St George's where complex surgery is carried out. Day surgery is performed at a number of partner hospitals- Kingston (KH), Epsom, St Helier (E/SH) and the Mayday (MH)- fed through outpatient services at these hospitals.
