Job description

We are seeking a Senior Care Assistant to support the Home Manager, Deputy and Assistant Manager in all aspects of the home's management, while supporting residents with personal care, and ensuring the training and development of staff.

Rate of Pay

  • Weekdays £14.87
  • Weekends £15.41

Contract Type: Permanent

Contract Hours: 36 Hours

Responsibilities
  • Assist Manager, Deputy Manager and Assistant Manager in running the home, in an efficient and caring manner in their absence.
  • Be fully aware of the contingency and emergency plan of the home.
  • Ensure a walking handover is carried out and that all residents are accounted for at the start and end of the shift.
  • Ensure that all staff contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the home and the creation of the right atmosphere, leading by example.
  • Support residents with all aspects of personal care whilst maintaining and promoting independence.
  • Support with the training and development of all staff and supporting the in‑house training programme is both implemented and monitored to a high standard.
  • Work in line with the Company's culture and ethos promoting Commitment, Connection and Compassion within daily duties.

  • Support residents to use the environment in accordance with their care plan and to have an understanding of the Mobile Care Monitoring System (MCM).
  • Support and promote all aspects of personal care with dignity and respect.
  • Observe and report any physical, physiological and emotional changes to the well‑being of the resident to a member of the senior team.
  • Identify and meet the social, emotional and cultural needs of residents and participate in organising social and recreational activities, liaising effectively with the Engagement Lead.
  • Ensure that dietary, nutritional and weight charts are completed, reviewed and monitored in accordance with each resident's needs.
  • Liaise and deal with external professionals in relation to individual residents and accurately record on the MCM, implementing actions required.
  • Proactively monitor and report any changes in individual resident's skin to prevent pressure areas developing and understand the referral process to outside agencies such as community nurses.
  • Understand Quality Management Systems and educate staff on these processes.
  • Leave bedrooms to a presentable standard, including bed making, tidying drawers, wardrobes and emptying bins.
  • Assist where appropriate in menu planning, food presentation and demonstrate knowledge for each individual resident.
  • Attend all staff meetings, training sessions, supervisions and appraisals.
  • Administer medication and be competent in ordering, recording and storage of medications, aware of all the company's medication policies.
  • Welcome all visitors, families and professionals, assist in the assessment process and admission of residents.
  • Review and develop Care Plans.
  • Work in line with the home's local authority safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all records required to be kept by CQC.
  • Produce accurate documentation in relation to care plans and other reporting and recording of information.
  • Be competent with all Health & Safety at Work procedures.
  • Understand all the B&M Care Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that residents' clothes are cared for, and clothing that needs repair or is beyond repair is reported to housekeeping or a family member.
  • Monitor the Mobile Care Monitoring System (MCM), ensuring records and documentation are up to date and correct.
Essential Skills, Characteristics and Experience
  • Minimum of NVQ Level 2 and/or working towards NVQ Level 3 or above.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and mentor staff and be a team player.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with both residents and staff.
  • Willingness to undertake training, demonstrate empathy and understanding of the needs of residents.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain professionalism throughout.
  • Uphold confidentiality at all times.
Desirable
  • Experience in medication administration.
  • Experience of working in a similar role or care setting.
  • A relevant qualification in Health and Social care.
  • A desire to develop within the role.
