Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for budgeting, financial management, mandatory reporting, and audit/tax preparation within the business office, in addition to supporting the Business Office Manager with other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Budgeting & Accounting: Assist with preparing annual state and county budgets, as well as with regular budget manager trainings in coordination with the Business Office Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Business Office Manager to advise the President and CFO on financial planning and investment strategy.
  • Monitor the chart of accounts and support business office manager with monthly journal entries.
  • Support monthly bank reconciliation for all college bank accounts, including research of any unaccounted for transactions.
  • Approve budget codes for payroll and reconcile all payroll deduction checks.
  • Reconcile and disburse all payments for employee/employer benefits including health, dental, and voluntary insurances, retirement, and other payroll deductions.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Review and approve year-end reports, including accrual basis reports, accrual financial statements per GASB standards, and the CAFR for the State Controller.
  • Complete annual survey requirements, including NCCCS Survey of Fees, IPEDS, and SACS financial surveys.
  • Administer grant program reports and support monthly reimbursement of expenditures request.
  • Other: Support process efficiency, including automation, within the business office.
  • Serve as back-up cashier.
  • Approve travel authorizations and reimbursements.
  • Maintain records relating to insurance claims (property and liability) and serve as the primary contact for any related claims.
  • Oversee tagging for new vehicles.
  • Assist with special projects and/or other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree and/or CPA certification
  • Previous experience in higher education
