Are you looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant role where you can support secondary-aged pupils and be part of a genuinely caring school environment?

We're working closely with a well-established secondary school in the Blackwood area who are looking to appoint an SEN Teaching Assistant to work within their nurture provision, supporting pupils aged 11-16 with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Location: Blackwood, South Wales
Pay Rate: £89.38 - £110 (depending on experience)
Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm
Contract: Full-time, starting January 2026 until August 2026.

The School

The school has a strong focus on inclusion, wellbeing and personal development. Pupils in the nurture class benefit from a calm, structured setting, with access to a dedicated sensory room to support emotional regulation and engagement throughout the school day. This provision is designed to help pupils feel safe, supported and ready to access learning at their own pace.

You’ll be joining a tight-knit and welcoming team, led by a supportive and approachable manager who values teamwork and consistency. Staff work closely together, and new team members are well supported from day one.

The Role

This is a hands-on SEN Teaching Assistant role where relationship-building is key. You’ll support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them manage emotions, build confidence and engage positively with learning. No two days are the same, but you’ll always be working within a clear structure and alongside experienced colleagues.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Helping pupils access learning activities and stay engaged
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams to promote inclusion
What We're Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is calm, patient and nurturing, with a genuine interest in supporting young people with additional needs. Experience working with SEN, SEMH or additional learning needs is desirable, but not essential - attitude and approach are just as important.

You’ll also need:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Confidence supporting pupils both academically and emotionallylse
  • Flexibility and resilience in a busy secondary school environment
  • A clear commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
