SEND Teaching Assistant Primary - Birmingham

Location: Birmingham
Hours: Full-time, Term Time Only

PK Education are working in partnership with a special school in Birmingham to recruit a full-time SEND Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties (SLD) and physical disabilities. These students require high levels of care, tailored communication approaches, and consistent, structured support throughout the school day.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work within a nurturing, highly supportive setting that is fully equipped to meet the educational and physical needs of its pupils. You will be working alongside skilled teaching and healthcare staff to ensure every child receives the personalised care and attention they need to thrive.

Job Specification
  • Support primary-aged students with severe learning difficulties and a range of physical and medical needs.
  • Work 1:1 or in small groups to deliver educational, personal, and physical care routines.
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, feeding, and use of specialist equipment as required.
  • Implement communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or other AAC systems (training can be provided).
  • Contribute to EHCP targets and daily progress reporting in collaboration with the wider team.
  • Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment tailored to each child's needs.
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with severe or profound learning difficulties and physical disabilities (or relevant transferable experience, e.g. in care settings).
  • Confidence supporting children with complex medical or physical care needs, or willingness to be trained.
  • A valid Child and Adult Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
  • Full-time availability during term time.
  • A compassionate, flexible approach and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
