Job summary

An educational support organization in West Bromwich is seeking a SEN Academic Coach to provide daily 1:1 support for a Year 9 pupil with autism and ADHD. You will help the pupil stay engaged in lessons and adapt tasks as necessary. The ideal candidate has a degree and strong communication skills, with a genuine interest in special educational needs. This role offers £81 - £102 per day, starting immediately until July 2026.

Qualifications

  • Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Desire to work in education/with children with a genuine interest in SEN.
  • Relevant experience with children is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

Overview

SEN Academic Coach – Immediate start until July 2026 • £81 - £102 per day • 'Good' secondary school, Sandwell • 1:1 support for a Year 9 pupil with autism and ADHD

The Role

You'll offer daily 1:1 support to a Year 9 pupil, helping them follow routines, stay engaged in lessons, and build independence. You'll adapt tasks, use visual prompts, scaffold transitions, and record simple progress notes. You'll liaise with teachers, the SENCO, and parents to keep strategies consistent.

The Candidate

You communicate clearly, stay patient under pressure, and build trust quickly. You follow support plans, keep boundaries firm but fair, and focus on small, measurable wins. You're organised, reflective, and motivated to remove barriers to learning.

Requirements
  • Degree - A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication - Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS - Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children - Genuine interest in SEN, behaviour support, and pupil wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children - Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.
