Qualifications

Overview

Oakham Shires School, part of Options Autism, is a leading independent SEN school dedicated to supporting autistic and neurodivergent students. We are looking for a passionate Secondary English Teacher to join our small, close‑knit team and deliver GCSE English to pupils with autism and developmental trauma.

Responsibilities
  • Teach English at GCSE level in small classes (maximum 6 pupils) using an engaging, calm, and supportive approach.
  • Design and adapt lessons to meet a wide range of abilities and individual needs.
  • Support learners with autism and developmental trauma, helping them close learning gaps and build confidence.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to ensure a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach.
  • Act as the English subject specialist across the school where required.
Qualifications
  • QTS / BEd / PGCE or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching English at GCSE level.
  • Experience supporting SEN and/or disadvantaged learners.
  • Strong understanding of autism, trauma‑informed practices and behaviour as a form of communication.
  • Compassionate, calm, and emotionally intelligent approach.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • This role is not suitable for Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
