Position: Science Teacher (with potential leadership responsibilities)

Location: Wigan

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Start Date: as soon as possible

Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance (Leadership allowance available for suitable candidates)

About the Role:

You will deliver engaging and accessible Science lessons across KS3 and KS4, adapting your approach to meet the diverse needs of the pupils. The students may have experienced trauma, disrupted education, or face ongoing emotional and mental health challenges - your role will be as much about connection as it is about curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated Science lessons.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom culture.
  • Work closely with pastoral and therapeutic teams.
  • Track and monitor student progress and adapt teaching accordingly.
  • Contribute to whole-school initiatives to improve behaviour, engagement, and attainment.

What the school are looking for:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS)
  • Strong subject knowledge across Biology, Chemistry and/or Physics
  • Experience teaching within SEMH or alternative provisions is highly desirable
  • Passion for inclusive education and trauma-informed practice
  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills

We're especially keen to hear from candidates who have previously held a Head of Department role, or have strong leadership potential. For the right candidate, there may be the opportunity to take on departmental leadership or wider curriculum responsibilities.
