Victoria Cross Surgery is looking for a salaried GP to join our team. We are looking for someone to work 4 sessions a week on a Monday and Thursday.

Main duties of the job

Our contract for salaried doctors includes a defined workload with a fixed number of patient contacts, no extended hours and minimal paperwork.

Victoria Cross Surgery including branch site Lakeside Practice is part of Brunel PCN5 along with Eldene Surgery and Abbey Meads Medical Practice including branch site Penhill Surgery.

Job responsibilities

REPORTS TO: Senior Partner (Clinically) & Managing Business Partner(Administratively)

HOURS: 4 Sessions Per Week - Monday & Thursday

Job summary:

The post-holder will manage a caseload anddeal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring thehighest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

Clinicalresponsibilities:

  • Inaccordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder willmake themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, includingsurgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visitingpatients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealingwith queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers withinthe organisation
  • Assessingthe health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosedproblems
  • Screeningpatients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developingcare plans for health in consultation with patients and in line withcurrent practice disease management protocols
  • Providingcounselling and health education
  • Admittingor discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to othercare providers as appropriate
  • Recordingclear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collectingdata for audit purposes
  • Compilingand issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
  • Prescribingin accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically)whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • Ingeneral, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normalduties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primarycare.

Health & safety:

The post-holder willimplement and lead on a full range of promotion and management of their own andothers health and safety and infection control as defined in the practicehealth & safety policy, the practice health & safety manual, and thepractice infection control policy and published procedures. This will include(but will not be limited to):

  • Using personal security systems withinthe workplace according to practice guidelines
  • Awareness of national standards ofinfection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual /professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
  • Providing advice on the correct and safemanagement of the specimens process, including collection, labelling,handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transportarrangements
  • Correct personal use of PersonalProtective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct use of PPE by others,advising on appropriate circumstances for use by clinicians, staff andpatients.
  • Management of the full range ofinfection control procedures in both routine and extraordinarycircumstances (e.g. pandemic or individual infectious circumstances)
  • Hand hygiene standards for self andothers
  • Managing directly all incidents ofaccidental exposure
  • Management and advice relating toinfection control and clinically based patient care protocols, andimplementation of those protocols across the practice
  • Active observation of current workingpractices across the practice in relation to infection control,cleanliness and related activities, ensuring that procedures are followedand weaknesses/training needs are identified, escalating issues asappropriate to the responsible person
  • Identifying the risks involved in workactivities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages thoserisks across clinical and patient process
  • Making effective use of training toupdate knowledge and skills, and initiate and manage the training ofothers across the full range of infection control and patient processes
  • Monitoring practice facilities andequipment in relation to infection control, ensuring that proper use ismade of hand-cleansing facilities, wipes etc., and that these aresufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment. Lack offacilities to be escalated as appropriate to the responsible manager
  • Safe management of sharps use, storageand disposal
  • Maintenance of own clean working environment
  • Using appropriate infection controlprocedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean and sterile and safeway, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial / corrective action whereneeded or escalation to responsible management
  • Actively identifying, reporting, andcorrecting health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediatelywhen recognised
  • Keeping own work areas andgeneral/patient areas generally clean, sterile, identifying issues andhazards/risks in relation to other work areas within the business, andassuming responsibility in the maintenance of general standards ofcleanliness across the business in consultation (where appropriate) withresponsible managers
  • Undertaking periodic infection controltraining (minimum twice annually)
  • Correct waste and instrument management,including handling, segregation, and container use
  • Maintenance of sterile environments
  • Demonstrate due regard for safeguardingand promoting the welfare of children.
