Job description
Overview

We're looking for a dynamic and collaborative Risk Manager to play a key role in developing our risk management framework. This is a fantastic opportunity to build your career in a visible position, supporting the Board, Audit Committee and Executive Leadership Team on important risk and governance matters. Marston's is a renowned name in British hospitality, with a proud heritage and a commitment to 'shared good times'. Our continued investment in our people, venues, and digital platforms has supported strong performance and ensures we're building a future‑ready business.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Do You’ll drive the delivery of our risk function, building strong relationships across the business, enhancing risk awareness and acting as a trusted advisor to senior management. Championing a risk‑aware culture, your remit includes leading risk and compliance reviews and workshops across business units, monitoring the effectiveness of controls, and escalating gaps to senior leadership. You’ll also take ownership of our corporate risk register (Diligent platform), ensuring principal, material, and emerging risks are identified and acted upon, and you’ll drive forward our response to Provision 29 of the Corporate Governance Code, building on the work already done to ensure a robust and future‑ready governance approach. You’ll prepare assurance reports for the Audit Committee and Board, support the development and testing of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and manage the corporate insurance programme, including policy procurement and renewal. As the role develops, you’ll have the opportunity to influence its direction and take on new responsibilities as the business evolves. Reporting into and supported by the Director of Financial Reporting & Tax, you’ll be at the heart of our business’s risk and governance response, with the opportunity to make a visible impact from day one.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in enterprise risk management and business continuity, or
  • Chartered accountancy/internal audit background, with the right curiosity, approach, and stakeholder style.

You’ll bring a strong understanding of governance frameworks and working within regulatory requirements, ideally with experience of working with PLCs. You’re a self‑starter, a strategic thinker with analytical and problem‑solving skills, comfortable leading workshops and influencing senior leaders, and you’re digitally engaged‑using technology and tools to drive insight, efficiency, and reporting. Typically, you’ll have 3+ years post‑qualification experience across risk, accounting or assurance roles with a professional qualification such as IRM, FRM, ISO 22301 certification, ACA, or CIA.

Ready to Get Ahead? If you’re ambitious, digitally engaged, and ready to make your mark, even if you are unsure whether you meet every requirement, we want to hear from you. Apply now and take the next step in your risk leadership journey.
