What can I expect to do in this role? / À QUOI PUIS-JE M’ATTENDRE À CE POSTE?

You will:

  • Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests;
  • Oversee kitchen operations, supervise staff, and train kitchen helpers;
  • Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods for up to 100 guests;
  • Organize, set up, and oversee buffets;
  • Cook and package batches of food, which are prepared to order or kept warm until sold;
  • Operate large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep-fat fryers, or griddles;
  • Replenish condiments and other supplies at tables and in serving areas;
  • Ensure all health regulations are adhered to in the kitchen and restaurant;
  • Plan menus, determine size of food portions, estimate food requirements and costs, and monitor and order supplies;
  • Maintain the inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment up to date;
  • Unpack and store supplies in cupboard and other storage areas and keep records of quantities used.
Qualifications / Qualifications

MANDATORY: Ontario Food Handler Certification

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Understanding of WHMIS;
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  • Experience with volume cooking and baking;
  • Knowledge of portion control standards;
  • Supervisory/leadership experience;
  • Customer service experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Strong oral communication skills to train and supervise staff;
  • Communication skills to understand work instructions;
  • Strong oral communication skills to exceed visitor needs;

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient in operating cash registers, processing debit and credit transactions, and handling cash reconciliation.

LEADERSHIP, ORGANIZATIONAL AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS:

  • Strong reasoning skills to identify unsafe conditions;
  • Ability to take on a leadership role in a team-oriented environment;
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills are essential for effectively managing inventory and order processes.
