Job description
Overview

Reporting Sonographer role at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Band 7 position offering general, gynae and obstetric ultrasound services, including Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme scans (First Trimester screening, growth scans, emergency gynae and early pregnancy scans). Small parts and DVT scanning experience is desirable but not essential as training is provided in-house.

The role requires cross-site working between the main Imaging department at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) and community sites.

Responsibilities

We are looking to recruit Band 7 Reporting Sonographers to work at the main hospital site and across community sites. Staff are expected to cover across sites, including a 7-day acute service and potential future extended hours. A weekend rotation to cover in-patient referrals is included (approximately 1:7, 09:00–13:00).

HCPC registration (or equivalent) is required. NHS experience is desirable but not essential. The role provides general, gynae and obstetric ultrasound with small parts scanning (desirable). The service includes a dedicated DVT clinic with sonographer-led discharge under guidance of Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

There is regular weekly rotation to the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) site, with outpatient scanning across the region. The Radiology Department supports career development into specialties such as Paediatrics, Head & Neck, Interventional and MSK ultrasound, with continuing education and potential for advanced practice roles.

Obstetric scanning is performed at the Centre for Women's Health (Wonford). The department is a hub for Fetal medicine and provides growth scans, cervical length scanning, uterine artery Doppler and mid cerebral artery scanning, alongside an emergency gynae and early pregnancy clinic.

The Trust has recently merged with North Devon District NHS Trust and operates ISAS/QSI accredited training facilities. We welcome informal visits or Teams meetings to discuss this opportunity further.

Other details

Working pattern: 37.5 hours per week, 9:00–17:00, Monday to Friday with weekend rotation (approximately 1:7) between 09:00–13:00.

Interview date: To be confirmed.
