Job description

As a Band 5 Staff Nurse within our Inpatient Mental Health team at Wellsprings Hospital, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care to adults experiencing acute mental health challenges. You will be a key member of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively with colleagues from a range of professional backgrounds to provide holistic, person-centred support for our service users.

You will be responsible for leading the clinical management of designated service users, supporting their journey towards recovery, and ensuring their safety and dignity at all times. Main duties of the job

Lead the clinical management of designated service users, including assessment, planning, and implementation of nursing care.

Support and supervise junior staff and students in patient activities.

Observe, report, and record changes in patients' physical and mental health.

Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to plan and deliver care.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.

Provide and supervise personal care and daily living activities.

Deliver therapeutic activities and emotional support to patients.

Undertake physical observations and report exceptions appropriately.

Complete and review clinical and risk assessments in line with Trust policies.

Administer prescribed medication in accordance with Trust policy.

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, and other professionals.

Act as keyworker for designated clients, including admissions.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain professional, supportive relationships with all staff and external agencies to enhance patient recovery.
  • Work within legal and professional frameworks relating to consent, capacity, deprivation of liberty, and the Mental Health Act.
  • Understand and apply a range of interventions, using evidence-based practice to achieve positive outcomes for service users.
  • Adhere to all Trust practice standards and policies.

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Provide clinical advice and support to junior team members.
  • Contribute to clinical leadership and support the team manager in achieving objectives and quality standards.
  • Promote staff well-being and morale, acting as a role model.
  • Address complaints in line with Trust procedures.

Professional Development:

  • Engage in management and clinical supervision, appraisal, and the Trust's personal development review process.
  • Take responsibility for personal development and education, including in-service training and reflective practice.
  • Support the learning experience of students and meet mentorship requirements.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend meetings and fulfill duties as instructed by your manager.
  • Ensure health and safety requirements are maintained.

Qualifications
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification Registered Mental Health Nurse Appropriately registered with the NMC as per post requirements
  • Teaching/Assessor qualificationEvidence of continuing professional development and to have undertaken post registration training

Additional Criteria
  • Required to develop knowledge base in line with the KSF requirements for the postMust be a car driver with a valid driving licence or have access to transport with appropriate business insurance in order to travel throughout the Trust, to meet the needs of the service
