A healthcare practice in Cumbria seeks a motivated individual for a varied role working 25-30 hours per week. You will initially work on reception, providing patient-focused services and managing prescriptions. Applicants will be supported to join the dispensary team, with training provided. A friendly and fast-paced environment awaits, with additional responsibilities in administrative tasks and patient coordination. A driving license and previous experience are preferred.
We are looking for a friendly and motivated individual to join our team for 25 - 30 hours per week in a varied and rewarding role within our busy GP practice. The work is via a shift pattern requiring you to work 4 afternoons per week 1pm to 6.30pm with the other hours to be delivered covering annual leave. Covering leave may require you to work in a morning from 7.45am - 1pm.
You will initially work on reception, where youll be part of a supportive team providing a high-quality, patient-focused service. This includes helping patients navigate our services, signposting to appropriate internal and external support, managing prescriptions, and taking payments where required.
As part of this role, you will develop to join our dispensary team.All applicants will be supported and expected to upskill to work within the dispensary, with full training provided and the opportunity to work towards a recognised dispensing qualification.
We also welcome applications from experienced dispensers, who will work across both reception and dispensary areas, particularly during the initial period, helping to support the team while becoming familiar with our systems and ways of working.

Reception
Working on the front desk is a fast paced environment requiring quick thinking, problem solving and compassion for patients
Greeting patients in a friendly and professional manner
Answering telephone calls, emails, and queries from patients
Booking, rescheduling, and cancelling patient appointments
Checking patients in for appointments
2. Administrative Tasks
Managing patient records and ensuring confidentiality
Processing prescriptions
Updating and maintaining patient records on clinical system
Handling incoming and outgoing emails
3. Communication & Coordination
Liaising with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
Coordinating with hospitals, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers
4. Confidentiality & Compliance
Ensuring patient data is handled in compliance with GDPR and medical confidentiality
Adhering to health and safety policies
Dispensing Medication
Our dispensary processes on average 8500 items per month
Preparing and dispensing prescriptions
Ensuring correct labelling and packaging of medicines
Checking prescriptions for accuracy and legality
2. Stock Management
Ordering, receiving, and storing pharmaceutical stock
Monitoring stock levels and expiry dates
Managing controlled drugs
Handling prescription queries from patients and healthcare professionals
Assisting with repeat prescription requests
Maintaining confidentiality and patient safety at all times
Caldbeck Surgery is located on the northern edge of the LakeDistrict National Park, and serves 4,400 patients over 100 square kilometres ofrural Cumbria.
We are a team of 30 people including 5 GP partners, with astrong educational ethos.
We are part of the Keswick and Solway Primary Care Network,which covers 43,500 patients from the Solway coast to Keswick and Carlisle and work closely with other GP Practices locally.
We are a rural practice and you will require access to a car as there is no public transport
