About the Firm & Role
CRA Consulting is delighted to be working with one of the UK's largest and most highly regarded residential development teams. Our client is seeking a talented Residential Development Lawyer with approximately 3-7 years PQE to join their Sheffield office, with flexibility for hybrid working.

The firm's Housebuilding & Strategic Land (HSL) team boasts over 80 lawyers dedicated to the sector, supported by specialist planning, plot sales, construction, environmental, agricultural, litigation, and tax teams. They act for the majority of the UK's top 10 and top 20 housebuilders, as well as national and regional developers, housing associations, landowners, local authorities, investors, and promoters.
With recent national housebuilder panel wins and an ambition to be the best firm in the UK for residential development, this is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive and growing practice that remains committed to its core values - doing the right thing and looking after its people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act for a diverse client base, including housebuilders, promoters, developers, landowners, housing associations, and local authorities.
  • Manage a range of transactions, including conditional and unconditional contracts, options, golden-brick and other affordable housing transactions, deeds of easement, infrastructure agreements, overages, site assembly, and service charge/management agreements.
  • Work on more complex matters such as strategic land agreements, promotion agreements, hybrid agreements, collaboration agreements, land pooling, building licences, mixed-use schemes, PRS, institutional investment, portfolio charging, and acquisitions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and develop connections with leading residential development land agents in the region.
  • Advise on VAT, SDLT, and affordable housing issues.
  • Contribute to business development activities and the ongoing growth of the HSL team.


About You

  • Ideally 3+ PQE, ideally with experience in residential development and strategic land transactions.
  • Proven track record of acting for a range of clients in the sector.
  • Strong client relationship skills and a network of relevant industry contacts.
  • Competence in routine residential development transactions, with some exposure to complex matters.
  • Commercial awareness and technical proficiency in VAT, SDLT, and affordable housing issues.
  • Ambitious, client-focused, a collaborative team player, and committed to excellence.
