Qualifications

  • Ability to travel to various sites; full UK driving licence preferred.

Quantity Surveyor
  • Job Type: Temporary (6 months, with potential extension)
  • Location: Manchester
  • Hybrid working model (3 days office-based, 2 days home-based).

We are seeking a temporary Quantity Surveyor to join our Design & Delivery Team at Manchester City Council. This role involves delivering planned, programmed works to approximately 13,000 housing units, including high-rise, low-rise, and sheltered blocks. The successful candidate will manage the commercial elements of major schemes such as kitchen and bathroom replacements, rewiring, heating installations, fire-risk assessment works, zero-carbon schemes, and more. This position requires travel to various sites, and access to a vehicle is preferable.

Day-to-Day of the Role
  • Manage commercial aspects of construction projects from start to finish.
  • Prepare feasibility studies and procurement reports, applying Value Management techniques at project outset.
  • Take ownership of estimating, cost planning, and presenting project cost plans.
  • Participate in all stages of the procurement process, including producing tender documentation under the direction of the Commercial Manager.
  • Implement and manage post-contract cost variances and change control processes.
  • Produce monthly cost reports and ensure that cost checking and valuation work is managed effectively.
  • Engage in value engineering and life cycle costing.
  • Ensure projects managed to the right quality standards, completed efficiently, and on time.
  • Develop relationships with clients and other stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and negotiation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Commercial experience in a construction project-related environment.
  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying (e.g., HNC, HND, BSc, MSc) or equivalent experience.
