Job description

Ember is the UK's first all-electric coach company. We launched in October 2020 and are now running on eight routes – including Dundee to Glasgow, Inverness to Edinburgh and Edinburgh to Fort William – with several further routes launching in the early part of 2026.

We’re looking for a PSV Mechanic to join the team that works across our fleet – 78 electric coaches at the moment, and growing fast. You’ll be our sixth qualified mechanic hire, and will be a key member of the team that we are building across Scotland. We are at advanced stages in developing new charging hubs in Livingston and Glasgow, with many more sites in the pipeline.

The ideal candidate will be experienced, energetic and confident with the passion to stay on top of the latest developments in the electric vehicle market. This will be a roaming role - working closely with the teams in Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness, and spending time there, but also visiting and working at our sites right across Scotland. We’ll make sure that you’re set up for success, with all necessary training, access to the right vehicle and all of the relevant tools and equipment.

This is a truly unique challenge - our coaches are used more intensively than any other electric vehicles in the world so not every problem will have a solution that can be found in a manual. Instead, your team will need to work closely with the manufacturer, go deep into understanding root causes and think creatively about how we could be avoiding the problem altogether in the future.

We’re looking for a problem-solver who will help to identify and resolve issues quickly, and will relish the challenge of joining a new team that will make our state of the art fleet the best-maintained in the country with the lowest downtime.

Responsibilities

As a PSV Mechanic, you're on the front-line. Not only will you be responsible for solving the immediate challenges in order to keep our coaches on the road, you'll also have an innate eye for both planned and preventative maintenance, always staying one step ahead of the curve.

We currently have a team of nine employees dedicated to fleet maintenance. You’ll form part of a department that brings all aspects of our maintenance in-house as we continue to grow.

We use technology heavily in the business, primarily building our own software systems. You'll need to be tech‑savvy, open to learning new systems and comfortable using remote diagnostics.

Requirements

You will need to meet these requirements:

  • Qualifications for PSV/HGV maintenance and repair to NVQ Level 3 or an international equivalent
  • IRTEC accreditation
  • 2+ years of experience at a senior level
  • Familiarity with all aspects of DVSA compliance
  • Experience in MOT preparation and safety/quality checks
  • A full UK driving licence (6 points or less)
Preferred
  • High‑voltage training
  • Experience in using a fleet management system
  • Full Category D PCV licence (we will help with training if not already in place)
