About us

The Sheffield College is a further and higher education institution dedicated to providing academic, vocational, and professional qualifications to approximately 13,000 young people and adults annually. About the role

The college is embarking on significant capital projects over the coming years and will require specific support to ensure that the financial aspects and plans are fully developed, implemented and reported on accurately. This will include developing financial modelling, forecasting and reporting to enable the Governing Body to have full oversight over the financial aspects of the project. Working across college teams, there will be a specific need to work alongside the Finance Team, the Estates Team and the IT Systems team and Designated Curriculum areas. The role will support the Executive Team with regular updates and information in relation to the projects.

Main Responsibilities
  • The main responsibility of the role is to gather / analyse financial information relating to capital projects. This encompasses consolidating information and ensure modelling and forecasting is developed and updated regularly.
  • Ensure all documentation is in place for the funding, financing and expenditure associated with the projects including income lines where applicable.
  • Collating information for reporting on progress to external stakeholders such as funders and financers where appropriate.
  • Working with external stakeholders to ensure all financial information is kept up to date and managed in line with financial regulations, accounting standards and funding requirements.
  • Work closely with the Head of Capital Projects on large projects to ensure costs are kept in line with budgets and allocated correctly and any amendments are made and modelled on at least a monthly basis.
  • Developing financial forecasting models to meet internal and external requirements including cashflow forecasting, financial planning models, risk analysis, budgets and phasing and scenario changes. It is also essential that Financial Accounting Standards are adhered to.
  • Producing capital grant returns so that all financial aspects are met and have a suitable audit trail in place and reporting on progress to the Executive Team on a regular basis.
  • Working alongside the finance team to ensure that all transactions are checked and capitalised where appropriate ensuring that the finance system is kept up to date.
  • Working with the Financial Analyst to develop internal PowerBI reporting to provide regular updates to the Executive Team and Governors as well as Senior Leadership Team colleagues with responsibilities for the project.

To achieve these specific duties, include, but are not limited to :

  • Monitoring and reporting of capital and Revenue Project Spend
  • Have responsibility for and maintenance of the asset register and depreciation calculations
  • Ensuring that the Finance System is up to date and all project data is reconciled to ensure accurate reporting on a monthly basis
  • Setting financial targets and monitoring project milestones for the project in conjunction with the Executive and SLT project leads and reporting progress against these
  • Working with the finance team to develop the reporting and improve the project module
  • Development and maintenance of financial models, forecasts and plans for projects by attending regular meetings to provide updates and taking forward actions to amend forecasts where required
  • Providing regular updates on progress to the Executive Team and specifically the Executive Director of Finance regarding project progress and financial implications
