Location: Birmingham - Hybrid, which includes every Wednesday in the Office
Initial 3-Month Contract


Hays is working in partnership with a local council to recruit a Project Accountant to support a range of WMCA Group capital projects. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional with strong project accounting experience to make a meaningful impact in a public sector setting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality project accounting services across multiple capital projects.
  • Support project managers in managing financial resources effectively.
  • Lead efficient month-end accounting and forecasting activities.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of robust annual capital budget proposals.
  • Monitor and control capital budgets and funding to ensure financial integrity.
  • Review month-end positions in line with agreed timetables.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant grant and funding conditions.
  • Provide financial advice and prepare written financial implications for formal reports, in collaboration with the Strategic Finance Business Partner.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience in project accounting, ideally within the public sector.
  • Strong understanding of capital budgeting and financial forecasting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
