Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

We are looking for an experienced, motivated and committed nurse with a passion for improving the experience and clinical outcomes of our patients and who inspires others to provide excellent patient care. This role is within the SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) team as a Specialist Practitioner (Advanced).

We are seeking nurses who can work autonomously in a hospital setting and run nurse-led clinics. Ideally applicants would have completed history taking, physical assessment and non-medical prescribing courses; however, aspiring nurses who would like to join the team will be considered. Trainees may start at Band 6 with support to complete these courses as part of their pathway. Applicants who demonstrate the required competencies may be offered a Band 7 contract upon appointment.

Responsibilities
  1. This is a progressive role to undertake set competencies and training to progress to a Specialist Practitioner (Advanced).
  2. The post holder has primary responsibility for providing specialist nursing/AHP input for a defined patient/client group, practicing autonomously as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team.
  3. The post holder will lead a team to provide safe therapeutic management of a defined patient/client caseload.
  4. The post holder will be the identified key worker for a patient/client caseload to coordinate/oversee therapeutic treatment and care.
  5. The post holder will provide specialist advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals. They will practice clinically in agreed care settings and advise/support Divisions regarding service management.
  6. The post holder will work across professional, departmental and Trust boundaries to develop and support patient-centred seamless care, with responsibility for leading practitioner-led care initiatives.
  7. The post holder is a role model for all and will contribute effectively to inter-professional teamworking.
Person Specification

Qualifications, knowledge and experience (Essential)

  • Registered nurse, or Registered AHP on the relevant part of the NMC or HCPC register.
  • Capable of attaining Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate (min 60 credits) or Master's degree or equivalent within the relevant specialty within 2 years.
  • Specialist training/qualification in area of practice including SACT passport.
  • Evidence of supporting/ managing a range of learners in practice; evidence of promoting effective learning in practice.
  • Capable of completing all Band 6 competencies within the relevant specialty.
  • Specialist clinical skills and experience within the specialist area; evidence of policy development and implementation.
  • Experience of change management, leadership and innovation; evidence-based care philosophy.
  • Clinical experience within the relevant specialty.

Desirable

  • Counselling/advanced communication skills qualification or training.
  • Leadership qualification/training.
  • Development/use of integrated patient care pathways; multidisciplinary team working.
  • Act in the role of Practice Assessor or support progression of learners and addressing challenges as needed.
  • Team leadership role.
