Principal Electrical Design Engineer role

Reporting directly to the RDL, the role involves delivering high-quality engineering design services to support the minimisation of risk and the achievement of strong project outcomes across turnkey and engineering services contracts. Responsibilities include coordinating design activities and producing design documents and drawings, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, specifications, and all relevant standards.

Principal Electrical Design Engineer responsibilities

• Create design layouts that are cost-effective, comply with specifications, and can be efficiently constructed and commissioned. “Cost” encompasses all expenses associated with both the design and its subsequent construction. To ensure cost-effectiveness, the total lifecycle cost of the design solution should be considered, including design time, materials, installation, and any potential impact on other disciplines.
• Apply standard practices wherever possible to ensure consistency and efficiency.
• Maintain competitiveness in all engineering and design activities.
• Provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
• Follow established procedures and processes to support the ongoing development of the department.
• Assist in the creation, monitoring, and improvement of departmental procedures and processes.
• Coordinate designs with all other disciplines, both internal and external, to ensure seamless integration and optimal contract outcomes.
• Maintain comprehensive files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
• Ensure customer satisfaction by recognizing that all beneficiaries of processes, including end users and internal departments, are considered customers.
• Maintain and actively follow a personal development plan.
• Assist in supervising and developing team members.
• Support a safe working environment for all staff.
• Minimise waste across all departmental activities.
• Ensure designs incorporate environmental considerations.
• Ensure all designs fully comply with health and safety requirements.

Principal Electrical Design Engineer requirements

• Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles
• Experience managing staff in relevant design disciplines
