The role

SSEN Transmission are seeking a Power Control Engineer to join us to ensure the safe and reliable operation of Scotland's high-voltage electricity network. You will use your expertise to control, monitor, and analyse the transmission network in real‑time, making crucial decisions to ensure grid security and stability.

This is a shift position working day/backshift. Shift work will be applicable once training for the position is complete.

You will

• Coordinate the commissioning of programs and operational data.
• Ensure power system analysis of electricity flows, real‑time switching and decision making on electrical network up to/including 400kV.
• Display understanding principles of real and reactive power flow, and voltage.
• Have experience and clear understanding of a safe system of work.
• Ensure the provision of appropriate supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) displays and Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSS/E) models prior to network changes.

You have

• A minimum of an HNC in electrical engineering and will ideally have experience as a senior authorised person (SAP).
• A relevant background in electrical power system operation.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues effectively to a diverse range of stakeholders.
• A team player who works well in a knowledge sharing culture.
• A flexible and proactive approach to work in order to achieve results and thrive under pressure.
• Previous experience working in a control room environment desirable.
